Further platforms have been created for future expansion. The terminal been developed with state of the art transportation systems within the airport. The pods known as automated people mover(APM) are run by computer system along guideways so do not need any staff. After initial operational difficulties when the Heathrow's new Terminal 5 building opened the terminal is now working normally. Remaining flights that were due to move to Terminal 5 will now be moved in phased stages with the 1st phase taking place on the 5th June and a further two stages, one on the 17th September and the last one at the end of October.
